Over the past 2 years, Wicked has been running workshops for young learners in secondary schools and other educational institutions. The workshops seek help learners find their voice through the medium of Spoken Word. The workshops are fun and interactive, and focus on creativity, writing for performance, performance techniques and strategies. The workshops will be structured towards preparing and delivering individual and group performances. The workshops are held in English.
“Its about passion and having fun whilst learning”
By framing Spoken Word Art as an outlet for their own passions, views and opinions, the learners are able to engage with the workshops in a spontaneous, fun and invested manner. These workshops can either be run over a course of weeks or in a more concentrated block of time depending on the age and availability of the learners. Also, the workshops can be tailored to run alongside academic units.
“Confidence through giving and receiving feedback”
Through constant constructive feedback learners are able to gain confidence both in their views and opinions, but also in their ability to communicate said views and opinions. At the end of the workshop the learners will be able to transition between writing, speaking and performing with increased confidence. These are invaluable transferable skills that will serve them well going forward.
